Corporation
In support of its efforts to make the Tribes self-sufficient and eliminate
the need for government assistance, the Tribal Council created Spirit Mountain
Development Corporation (SMDC) to explore and develop diversified business
ventures. Spirit Mountain Development Corporation has two primary goals:
- First and foremost to generate profitable business ventures which create a
revenue stream to support the Tribes’ programs and services.
- Second, to create quality employment opportunities for tribal members.
Spirit Mountain Development Corporation was created as a Tribal corporation.
The SMDC Board of Directors makes business decisions independently of the Tribal
Council.
Spirit Mountain Casino Spirit Mountain Casino is the development
corporation’s first business venture. The Casino opened in 1995 and has grown to
become Oregon’s most popular tourist attraction and the most successful Indian
casino in the Pacific Northwest.
Real Estate Investment and Development SMDC is an equity investor
in the Gregory Project, a mixed-use condominium project located in Portland’s
Pearl District. The Gregory emphasizes unique architecture with an outstanding
location on the new Portland Trolley Car line, which begins operation in July,
2001.
Russellville Commons represents another SMDC equity investment. Russellville
Commons is a Transit Oriented Design Development that includes 247 apartment
rental units located on the MAX line in southeast Portland.
Grand Ronde Industries, LLC Grand Ronde Industries (GRI) is an
industrial services company located in Tangent, Oregon that supports a number of
manufacturing and logistical processes for the Hewlett Packard Company in
Corvallis. GRI has grown its revenue base to close to seven million dollars
since 1998 and currently employs thirty-two people at its warehouse.
Spirit Mountain Environmental Services, LLC Spirit Mountain
Environmental Services (SMES) is an environmental planning firm located in
Wilsonville, Oregon. SMES provides a variety of land use and environmental
planning services to public and private sectors throughout the Pacific
Northwest. Current projects include:
- Port of Tillamook Bay, Golf Course Development Project
- City of Lafayette, Oregon Department of Transportation, TGM Project
- Ecology and Environment, Inc., US EPA Region X Environmental Services
- Ed-A-Leen Dairy, Lynden, Washington Anaerobic Digester Project
- Newport Chamber of Commerce-Port of Newport
Grand Ronde Industrial Development Corp., LLC Grand Ronde
Industrial Development Corp. is a licensed general and electrical contractor
currently performing work for a variety of commercial and industrial clients
including Kaiser Permanente, Oregon State University and Hewlett Packard
