Salem Couple Celebrating 48th Anniversary Hits $20,500 Bingo Jackpot on "48th" Number
Former City Worker and His Wife Play Regularly at Spirit Mountain
Grand Ronde, OR. (February 22, 2005) -- The traditional gift for a 48th wedding anniversary is "optical goods," such as a microscope or telescope.
Wesley Fisher, of Salem only had to use his own eyes - as well as his wife's - to stare in disbelief when he hit a $20,500 bingo jackpot at Spirit Mountain Casino on Monday evening. While playing progressive "Blackout" bingo he won with just 48 numbers on the day of his 48th wedding anniversary.
"I'm a pretty laidback guy and really don't ever think I'm going to win," said Fisher, who visits Spirit Mountain Casino about twice a month with his wife, Sally. "So when the two numbers that I needed, 7 and 32 came up, I couldn't believe it. My wife had to look with me to confirm that I won."
To win at Blackout bingo, players must blackout their cards using 50 numbers or less. According to Spirit Mountain's Bingo Manager, Jan Linkhart, it is very rare for anyone to win with less than 50 numbers. "The number 48 proved to be magical for the Fishers in more ways than one," commented Linkhart.
A retired Salem city worker, Fisher and his wife spend most of their time during the week babysitting their grandchildren. The Fishers were returning from visiting Sally's sister in Washington on Monday, who was also celebrating a wedding anniversary. "We played at a casino up there and were on our way home when we thought we'd stop at Spirit Mountain and see if we could catch the evening session," said Fisher. "Our anniversary was pretty uneventful up until we won. After 48 years of marriage and 32 years working for the city, you figure there's not much that can get you too excited, but this (hitting the jackpot) sure did."
